No. 1
Burkii
Fresh this fall and already written up by Greater Long Island. Owner Sammi Dutt grew up in Bay Shore and spent over three years renovating the space with his family. It's a two-counter setup: on one side, crispy chicken, wings, burgers, loaded rice bowls and wraps; on the other, espresso, matcha, specialty lattes with house-made syrups, and a Kashmiri latte with pistachio. Açai bowls and smoothies too. Burkii means "take a bite" in Urdu, so consider that an instruction. Hours are 6am–10pm on weekdays, so it works for breakfast before the LIRR. Weekend opening times differ by source (7am, 7:30am or 8am), so aim for 8 to be safe. Family note: wings, bowls and açai covers everyone at the table.
Halal check: CERTIFIED. HMS (Halal Monitoring Services) lists it as certified for chicken, lamb and beef. Shariah Board New York lists "All Fresh Menu Items" as certified zabiha halal, active through Dec 31, 2026. Zabihah lists it as fully halal with no alcohol.
Buzz: Greater Long Island opening feature; Zabihah listing.
Worth it because: a certified-halal wing spot that also does a Kashmiri pistachio latte is basically two cravings at one address.

Halal Munchies
The NYC cart platter, moved indoors: lamb, chicken, kofta, fish or falafel over rice. It's open 10am–3am daily, which matters near Rutgers, especially on Halloween night.
Halal check: the restaurant's site says "Pure Halal." Zabihah lists it as fully halal (owner's verbal word, no certificate on file), no alcohol.
Buzz: Daily Targum feature (Oct 11).
Worth it because: when it's 2am and you're hungry, the platter is always the right answer.

The Saucy Cup
A Muslim woman-owned cafe with matcha up front and a build-your-own pasta bowl station in back. Last call for the pink "Pink For A Purpose" drink: it runs through Sat Oct 31. Family note: pasta bowls are a safe bet for picky kids.
Halal check: the official site says "fully halal kitchen." Zabihah lists it as fully halal (verbal word), no alcohol.
Buzz: Explore New Jersey feature (Oct 12), viral in Wayne per ENJ.
Worth it because: matcha and build-your-own pasta under one roof is a combo we didn't know we needed.
